Ph.D. Placement History

Since the Latin American and Latino Studies Department launched its Ph.D. program in 2014, we have had a 100% placement rate for our alumni. Below is a list of our alumni and their first roles following graduation.  

  • Ismael Illescas, Ph.D. 2022, permanent faculty member of the Ethnic Studies Department at Chabot College.
  • Candy Martinez, Ph.D. 2022, 2022-2023: University of California President’s Postdoctoral Fellow at UCLA with the sponsorship of David Delgado-Shorter, professor of world arts and cultures/dance, 2023: Assistant Professor in Latin American and Latinx studies at Vassar College, with a focus on race, injustice, and immigration
  • Emilia Valenzuela Vergara, Ph.D. 2021, Postdoctoral Fellow, Department of Sociology at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile
  • Mauricio Ernesto Ramirez, Ph.D. 2021, 2022-2023: University of California President’s Postdoctoral Fellow and Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Postdoctoral Fellow in the Chicana and Chicano Studies Department at UC Davis, 2021-2022: Postdoctoral Fellow, Department of Latina/Latino Studies at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign
